KaNyamazane musician takes on music career the African jazz way

Reshen Music is an passionate African jazz musician. He recently added DJing to his repertoire as a talented live performer.

An African jazz musician, Justice Nkala, also known as Reshen Music with his band and Reshen on Decks as a DJ, says his passion for African jazz will not change despite the new genres that have been introduced to the music industry.

Nkala said he is passionate about African jazz and hopes to entertain those who love such music. He said he is inspired by the late internationally renowned muso, Tsepo Tshola. “I had the opportunity to remake Tshola’s song, ‘Papa’, widely known as the ‘Waiting for your name to be called’, with him. It was a beautiful moment to be associated with him before he passed away. I can say I was able to say my goodbyes properly to one of my influencers in the music industry.”

He said he aims to have a live recording in Mbombela of his upcoming album with Reshen Music, which will make up the audio and video albums.

“I have been working on my own songs, four of which would have featured Tshola, but I have not been able to record them. I am still gathering funds and searching for sponsors to assist in the live recording.”

Nkala said being Reshen on Decks is an expansion of his music skills. His love of African jazz music, for which he aims to create platforms to showcase, was influenced by growing up with his grandparents who were avid radio listeners.

“My grandparents listened to the radio from early in the morning when most multilingual radio stations played African jazz sounds. It became like an alarm to wake up to, and over time I just fell in love with the music.”
