Social running group established in Hazyview

The group was established for all people of all ages and races, especially youngsters, so they can live a healthy lifestyle.

Due to a lack of activities in the Hazyview area and surrounding communities, a group of social runners has been established, and many people are joining on a regular basis.

According to the group’s founder, Ishmael Mtungwa, they decided to gather and have joint runs. “At the moment, we have more than 15 runners, of which some are Comrades runners. The positive thing about this group is that we are diverse and welcome every ethnic group. We wish to be visible in the community to attract more young people to join this healthy lifestyle and to find running talent in our area,” he said.

The running schedules include the main run on Sunday mornings from 04:30. The distances are 10km and 20km.

“Our aim is to have a fully functional running club in Hazyview. We started running collectively in March last year, as we do not have any competition in our area. We found that many local runners had to go and join running clubs far afield,” Mtungwa said.

He called on more people to join the group, especially young people, as he says it will help keep them off the street and away from substance abuse.

Interested persons can just bring their running gear and run along with them. For more information or to join the group, call or WhatsApp 076 575 7603.
