Buffelspruit poet to open for President Cyril Ramaphosa during State of the Nation Address

Senziwe said she is ready to render her poem in Siswati at the official opening of the National Assembly.

Senziwe Maliba said she is looking forward to giving her best performance yet during the opening of the 2024 National Assembly in Cape Town on Thursday February 8.

Affectionately known as Inkosatana Nziwe from Buffelspruit, she will be the official praise singer for President Cyril Ramaphosa just before he delivers his State of the Nation Address.

“I am overwhelmed, emotional and very excited. This is something I would have never thought would happen for a girl from a rural area like me. This is the highest I have ever gone in my journey as a poet and I am honoured,” said Nziwe.

The 24-year-old added that she has been practising since the day she received the invitation.

“I received it on Friday February 2 and I am ready to perform my magic on that stage. I will throw in a line or two in Venda, but the most part of my poem is done in Siswati.”

Nziwe has encouraged the youth to pursue their wildest dreams, as nothing is impossible.

“I grew up loving the cultural activities and praise singing. l was identified by Nkomazi Local Municipality during a school mayoral programme while l was still at Mahlatsi High School. If it can happen for me, it can happen for anyone. I encourage young people to follow their passion and stick to their dreams. They should use whatever opportunity is before them, no matter how small it may look. If it hadn’t been for the Nkomazi Arts and Culture office programmes and opportunities, l wouldn’t have been here today.”
