University of Mpumalanga provides updates on 2024’s applications, registrations

According to the university’s spokesperson, they are currently helping walk-in applicants. The university will also notify all applicants at a later stage when the registration period will end.

The University of Mpumalanga said in a statement on January 22 that the institution is currently assisting those students who have applied before the closing date for applications, which was November 30.

The university’s spokesperson, Tlangelani Ubisi, said, “Walk-ins are allowed for applicants who had applied and are coming to check their status or submit results, or change the programme they applied for due to the results, or are adding another option. Walk-ins are allowed for applicants with an Admission Point Score [APS] of 40.”

Regarding the availability of space, Ubisi said, “We will communicate after the closing date of registrations should there still be available space for applicants who did not apply.”

2024’s in-person registrations for first-year students begins on Monday February 5 and ends on Friday February 9.

During the previous registration time, Ubisi had said the institution advised students to apply on time when they open the applications for 2024, and to take into consideration the APS for their preferred qualifications before applying. In 2023, based on the enrolment plan, the UMP only had space for 2 817 first-time entering students and was unable to accommodate all the others who applied.

The university will be home to over 25 000 students once the process has been completed. This came to light during an exclusive sit-down session with the university’s vice chancellor, Prof Thoko Mayekiso, in November. She said they had 169 students in 2014, and in 2023, they registered 8 442 students.
