Man killed in light aircraft crash outside Ermelo

The circumstances around the crash are still under investigation by the SAPS and the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

A light aircraft crashed and killed a man in his 60s this morning, January 27, outside Ermelo.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for the Ermelo police, the accident occurred at about 07:00, shortly after the pilot had taken off.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority has been notified and the SAPS is investigating the incident.

“Preliminary information indicates that the pilot was under way from Bethlehem [Free State] to Malawi,” Prinsloo said.
