Man murdered outside Barberton court identified

Robert Bhasobha Mazubuko was killed and three others were assaulted outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court during the appearance of six suspects in connection with the murder of Mandla Mamba.

The man who was fatally shot outside the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on January 16, has been identified as the 54-year-old Robert Bhasobha Mazubuko.

He was killed and three others were assaulted outside the court during the appearance of six suspects in connection with the murder of Mandla Mamba, a former City of Mbombela councillor and ANC member.

Mamba was gunned down in Barberton in the early hours of July 2 last year.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said preliminary investigations suggest that a scuffle had broken out between some people who were outside the court. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

He said the police have opened a murder case with three additional counts of attempted murder. Mdhluli further said no one has been arrested as yet, and the police are still looking for the suspects.

The police urge anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects to call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send information via the My SAPS app. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

Meanwhile, the six suspects in connection with Mamba’s murder appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court again on Tuesday. The matter was moved to the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court and they are expected to appear there on January 31.
