It’s all systems go for the ANC’s January 8 Statement in Mbombela

In his speech, the ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to set the tone for the year ahead.

Throngs of ANC supporters have started filling up the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga for the ANC’s 112th anniversary celebration and the January 8 Statement. The roads to the stadium are already starting to be packed with traffic.

Hundreds of buses and taxis are queueing on the N4, bringing in the party’s faithfuls for their annual celebration.
There is huge police visibility within the stadium precinct.

The party’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to speak about the ongoing load-shedding, the spate of gender-based violence, crime, corruption and unemployment.

During the official cake cutting ceremony held on Monday January 8 at this very stadium, the ANC Youth League president challenged Ramaphosa and his government to address the issue of unemployment as a matter of urgency.

This province is hosting this particular event for the second time.
