ANC ready for January 8 Statement to be hosted in Mbombela

The party's 112th anniversary celebration is expected to attract thousands of its members to the Mbombela Stadium.

It’s all systems go for the ANC’s annual January 8 Statement gathering, which will be hosted at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday January 13.

The party is set to celebrate its 112th anniversary in this province and is once again looking to attract thousands of its loyal members to the Mbombela Stadium.

The ANC in the province made history by filling up this 2010 Soccer World Cup stadium in 2014 when it hosted this annual event.

The party’s provincial chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu, highlighted that much work has been done on the ground to ensure a successful event.

“A lot has already been done. There are less than 30 days to go before the big day, and we are on the ground, working hard, not only to get everyone to attend but to finalise organisational programmes as well,” said Ndlovu, when called for comment on the state of readiness.

He went on to point out that they are in luck since they had previously hosted this event, which proved to be huge success in terms of attendance.

“Fortunately, the Mbombela Stadium is no stranger to such big events, as we had successfully hosted the January 8 celebration here and we used that event as a learning curve. I am certain we are going to pull off a dignified event,” he said.

The province has already been flooded with ANC National Executive members, who came down to check on progress and conduct mass mobilisation and activation programmes ahead of this annual event.

The first deputy secretary general, Nomvula Mokonyane, one of the party’s heavyweights who visited the province, also voiced her satisfaction with the manner in which the party’s Provincial Executive Committee has been running the show in preparing for the event.

The ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, who will officially deliver the January 8 message, is likely to also use this opportunity to unveil its manifesto for the 2024 national and provincial elections.

“Preparations are at advance stage and we are happy about the work that has been done so far. I would like to urge all our members and the entire Mpumalanga community to come and fill the Mbombela Stadium, like we did in 2014,” said Mokonyane.
