The Zaza Mahlangu Foundation went back again to sponsor Mphumelomuhle Secondary School's Class of 2023 with farewell attire and a glamourous ceremony as a way to celebrate these learners.

Forty Grade 12 learners of Mphumelomuhle Secondary School in Verena, outside KwaMhlanga, benefited from a fun, glitzy and glamorous matric farewell, courtesy of the Zaza Mahlangu Foundation’s Matric Farewell Attire Drive.

The founding director of the foundation, Zaza Letsholo, and her team had embarked on a drive throughout the year to collect dresses, suits and formal shoes for the learners.

“We managed to collect enough dresses for the girls, but we did not receive the number of suits we expected. However, we managed to buy 10 brand-new suits for some of the boys. The learners get to keep the outfits for themselves or pass them on to anyone who might be in need of a matric farewell outfit in their communities,” she said.

The farewell was held at the Skhosana Gardens on November 30.

Letsholo said the annual drive aims to uplift underprivileged schools. “The learners had the opportunity to create the memories that the school was unable to organise for them. During the ceremony, we interacted with the learners about life post matric and ways to build for a brighter future no matter the circumstances at home.”

The Zaza Mahlangu Foundation identified the school in 2001 and organised their first-ever matric farewell. The school also received another farewell celebration in 2022 and 2023.

“It takes a village to raise a child, and we are grateful for the people in ours. The drive was successful and would not have been possible without the help we received. Thank you to my community, local businesses, family, friends and also those whom I have never met. This is a milestone memory the learners will cherish,” Letsholo said.
