Truck driver escapes death on R538

The driver was found trapped in the wreckage and was rescued using the Jaws of Life.

A driver of an articulated truck escaped death after the truck that he was driving crashed on the R538 between White River and Sabie.

The incident occurred earlier today, Saturday, December 9.

According to Emer-G-Med, paramedics responded to an HMV accident.

On arrival it was established that an articulated truck had lost control on a bend, leaving the road and rolling down an embankment.

“The driver was found trapped in the wreckage and was extricated using hydraulic rescue equipment before he was stabilised and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Emer-G-Med

The road is open for traffic.

Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said they are aware of the accident and are calling on motorists to drive with caution.

He also wished the driver a speedy recovery.

The truck company was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
