UPDATE: N4 between Nkomazi Toll Plaza and Kaalrug cleared following fatal accident

TRACN4 said the road was closed for the recovery and clearing of the accident. A helicopter had to be called in in the process.

The N4 between the Nkomazi Toll Plaza and Kaalrug intersection has been reopened after four people were killed in a crash between a sedan and a road marking construction vehicle earlier today, November 28.

Four people lost their lives when a sedan crashed into a construction vehicle on the N4 between the Nkomazi Toll Plaza and Kaalrug near Malalane today, November 28.

According to the spokesperson of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, three of the deceased were two passengers and the driver of the sedan.

“The driver of the construction vehicle also passed away. The victims were declared dead on the scene.”

Three other people sustained serious injuries, including a flagman and two other passengers of the sedan, while one sustained slight injuries. The critically injured were airlifted to hospital.

Mmusi said the cause of the crash is unknown, however, investigations are already under way.

According to TRACN4, that section of the road remains closed.
