Young Masoyi poet aims for the stars

Bongekile Ndinisa said she will be releasing her two anticipated poems soon, and she hopes they will cement her in the local entertainment industry.

Bongekile Ndinisa (18) is a poet, storyteller and writer who is hoping to make a mark in the local entertainment industry.

She said she started to writing poems at the age of 10. “I used to write the poems in English, inspired by my surroundings and to just appreciate life. As I grew older, I ventured into writing my poems in Siswati which is my home language. I would also perform my poems at Sunday School to gain confidence to speak in public.”

She said she is inspired by the multi-talented and internationally acclaimed musician, Sjava, and looks up to him.

Bongekile said getting airplay on community radio stations played a big role in her aspiring career in literature. “I have entered various local poetry competitions and won some. I appreciate the support my community of Mganduzweni near Masoyi show me, such as invitations to perform.”

In October, she recorded two poems titled “Inhlupheko” and “Mndeni Anginawo”, inspired by her life as a young woman and other people in the community. She said the poems will be released to the public soon, after she has completed her Grade 11 end-year examinations.

She said her dream is to be recognised nationally and to perform on big stages. “I want to grow in this field so I can be able to offer poetry lessons. I believe I was born to heal people and travel around the world to share my calling. I regard myself as a healer of the heart through words, and wish to encourage people to live beyond the challenges they face on a daily basis,” Bongekile said.
