IN PHOTOS: Prestigious award ceremony honours health practitioners in Mpumalanga

The Health Excellence Awards were attended by locals in the medical field to witness as some of their esteemed colleagues received accolades for their contribution.

At a grand and prestigious night, the annual Health Excellence Awards 2023 saw movers and shakers in the health and medical field being honoured for their unwavering hard work.

Held at the Emnotweni Arena on November 18, practitioners in the medical field, varying from nurses to community uplifters and doctors, filled the arena to celebrate the auspicious event organised by the Health Excellence Organisation (HEO).

The founder of the HEO, Sylvia Maseko, said the awards aim to recognise and applaud the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and organisations who have made a significant impact in the realm of healthcare.

“This evening is a testament to the tireless efforts, unwavering dedication and innovative spirit that drives the healthcare industry forward. Let us come together as a community to celebrate the power of innovation, compassion and resilience in healthcare. May we be inspired to push boundaries, challenge the status quo and continue to pursue excellence in our respective fields,” she said.

Distinguished guests included the Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, and former Mpumalanga Division of the High Court’s Judge Francis Legodi, among others.

In her keynote speech, Manzini said the Mpumalanga Department of Health fully supports the awards as they become a beacon on the medical and healthcare sector. “It is imperative that we honour the people who are passionate about saving lives. It is a difficult field of work, therefore we need to appreciate and encourage these individuals and what perfect way to do through these unique Health Excellence Awards. To all the nominees, regard yourselves as winners,” she said.

The night, hosted by Dr Mandla Matshabe and Charity Hoffman, featured 12 honorary awards given to various healthcare practitioners around the country, Dr Oluseun Labeodan, Sr Jenny Goldstone, Dr Fundile Nyati, Dr Lungile Mhlongo, Dr Elpidio Galindo, Thabisile Phaveha, Dr Harry Mabunda, Dr Patrick Maduna, Sibusiso Khumalo, Dr Toffie Bleeker, Prof Jara Skosana and Dr Faber van der Westhuizen.

The winners of the Health Excellence Awards 2023:

• Healthcare Practitioner Author of the Year – Pamela Sedibe
• Charity Drives Healthcare Practitioner of the Year – Sharon Magolego
• Most Compassionate Healthcare Practitioner of the Year – Noxolo Precious Singwane
• Healthcare Professional Media Personality of the Year – Dr Christopher Menzi Zungu
• Healthcare Professional Community Builder of the Year – Dr Tsidi Sithole-Mabila
• Multitalented Healthcare Practitioner – medical duo, Dr Khanyisile and Dr Ziyanda Ndebele
• Media Healthcare Professional Educator of the Year – Dr Thandeka Ngcobo
• Healthcare Professional Mentor of the Year – Dr Thembeka Buleni.
