Nsikazi learners shine in spelling bee competition at KMI Airport

The inaugural spelling bee competition saw learners in four grades excel as they represented their schools.

The first-ever Kruger Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport’s spelling bee competition was hosted at the airport on October 20.
Twenty learners from five primary schools and five high schools in Nsikazi entered.

The 10 schools that participated were Lwaleng Primary, Buhle Primary, Embonisweni Primary, Edwaleni Primary, AA Khumalo Primary, Khutsalani High, Phatfwa Secondary, Hlanganani Secondary, Guduza Secondary and Vulindlela Secondary.

Each school had two entries. Primary schools entered in the Grade Three and Six categories and high schools in the Grade Nine and 11 categories.
The judges were Ernest Barker, Magdeline Mgwenya and Winnie Nkosi.

The winners were:
• Grade Three: Thapelo Nyirenda of AA Khumalo Primary
• Grade Six: Minehle Sedibe of Embonisweni Primary
• Grade Nine: Anele Nkosi of Khutsalani High
• Grade 11: Nkosingphile Dlamini of Hlanganani Secondary

According to the airport’s head of community liaison, Mbongeni Mashigo, all the winners, including second and third placers, received medals and a R250 Makro voucher.

He said all the schools with first-place winners will provide their wish lists to the airport, to the value of R3 000, which will then be fulfilled.
