KMI Airport’s soccer tournament in KaBokweni a success

Several soccer teams near the KMI Airport participated in a tournament, which promised great prizes to uplift the small teams.

The Kruger Mpumalanga International (KMI) Airport’s soccer tournament saw a number of community soccer teams around Nsikazi clash at the Dwaleni Sports Ground in KaBokweni on October 14 for the ultimate cash prize of R3 500.

The Simunye Promotions team won the tournament and received additional prizes, including a trophy, gold medals and a full KMI Airport branded soccer kit.

The KMI Airport’s head of community liaison, Mbongeni Mashigo, said the tournament kicked off with four teams: Simunye Promotions, Killers FC, Highlanders FC and Rockville United FC. The KMI Airport team played with Dwaleni Masters FC for an entertainment match as a build-up to the final game.

“Simunye Promotions took on Rockville United FC and won 3-1. Highlanders FC drew with 2-2 with Killers FC and won with 7-6 penalties. The finals saw Simunye Promotions and Killers FC clash. Simunye Promotions received first place with a draw of 1-1 and 5-4 penalties.”

Mashigo said the aim of the soccer tournament was to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle while giving back to the community.

Killers FC received second place with a R2 500 cash prize and silver medals. Rockville United FC came third with a R1 200 cash prize and bronze medals.
