“I used to win awards when I was little for the work I did. I have a piece that I did in 1997 that my grandmother kept. When I was in primary at St Peter’s Catholic School Nelspruit, I did art as part of my extramural classes. When I moved to Lowveld High School, I got the opportunity to travel overseas. I went to Italy, Greece and Egypt, which is where I got exposed to a different side of art. That is where I became open-minded. I moved on to study graphic design at Midrand Graduate Institute. From there I decided to focus on art, television and film production,” she said.

Masuku hosted the exhibition because she wanted to give the public something different. “I did not want them to just go to the gallery and simply view art. I wanted to shy away from the old ways. People who go to galleries love art and I wanted to reach out to my target market. I also wanted to come out as an abstract artist, to say this is who I am.”
