Nkomazi Afro-pop singer to drop debut EP

Ecstatic about her debut EP to be released in November, Nokwanda Ngwenya cannot wait get more of her music out.

Ngwenya, stage name ‘Carondy’, said the EP is titled Umthombo Wempilo and will contain four Afro-pop songs. “The project will be a showcase of my talent as I share my experiences about life, pain and love. I cannot wait to release it,” she said.

The EP follows the four singles she believes were a success as a start to her music career.

“I love singing and playing around with notes to understand my voice. My interest in Afro-pop music was inspired by its ability to showcase my voice. I ventured into music in 2019 and managed to release my first single, ‘I am a Star’, in 2021. I wanted to put out a message that also became a manifestation to always get paid for bookings. The song is about me being the star I am,” she said.

This year, Ngwenya released a song about love on Valentine’s Day, titled “Uyangithanda”. “I believe love keeps the world going, and what would we be without love? Through my voice, I am empowered to spread love all across the world.”

The 22-year-old musician said being an Afro-pop artist has allowed her to express her thoughts and emotions as a young woman better.

“I still have a long way to get to where I want to be. I want to be a superstar and make music with great musicians. I want to heal people and make feel them free with my music, as it has allowed me to see life in a greater perspective.”

She said her dreams include getting her music played on local radio stations such as RISE fm, Ligwalagwala FM and Nkomazi FM.

Ngwenya said she would also like to collaborate with local artists and contribute to the success of the music industry around her home, Mzinti and Mpumalanga.
