Mpumalanga matrics start with trial exams

The Class of 2023 commenced with their trial examinations on August 28, and will proceed to write these until September 28.

The spokesperson for the provincial Department of Education, Jasper Zwane, said, “The trial examination provides an important opportunity for learners to write a full examination paper similar to the final examinations, to identify areas they need to focus on in their studies.

“So far we have not received any reports of disturbances, and everything is running smoothly. We wish it to remain that way throughout.”

The department urges all learners to take this examination session seriously and to give it their full attention.

“Parents and communities are requested to support schools and learners during this trial examinations period and ensure there is nothing to disrupt learning and teaching in schools within the province. Disruption of schools and study time deprives learners of valuable time to prepare for their examinations. Disturbances make it very difficult for teachers to cover the syllabus. The department is of the view that concerns that disrupt schooling and sometimes the running of examinations, can be addressed through open and honest dialogue. It requests communities to desist from disrupting schooling and to collaborate in the best interests of all learners, as such disruptions are counterproductive and set communities and especially learners back.”

Zwane said they further urge all stakeholders to work together to ensure the trial examinations are a success.
“Such an act of unity, purpose and goodwill ensures all learners an opportunity to achieve their full potential.”
The Grade 12s will commence with the National Senior Certificate Examination on October 30.
