Mganduzweni’s female vocalist and songwriter on a roll after bagging a Basadi in Music Award

Future Mokoena, also known as Nuzu Deep, is excited about her new project which features some international producers.

A vocalist and songwriter, Future Mokoena (29), also known as Nuzu Deep, bagged a Basadi in Music Award for the Dance Artist of the Year.

Mokoena said she had not believed she would win as she was contending against some female South African musical giants.

“This award means there is no turning back. It is an encouragement to push harder to accomplish my plans and to make a positive mark in the music industry, especially in Mpumalanga.”

She said being nominated was already a win for her as she was recognised for her contribution to the music industry as a female deep house, Afro-house, tech musician, vocalist and songwriter since the inception of her career in 2017.

Mokoena said she hoped by winning the award, it would open more doors of opportunities to collaborate with other musicians. She has worked with big musicians such as Darque, Rabs Vhafuwi and Sir Marcus.

She started singing at the age of eight in Mganduzweni Combined School’s junior choral choir. She said she fell in love with deep house at 16 and never looked back.

“This project was a competition in which I invited music producers from around the world to produce a version of one of my songs using my vocals. My team and I received over 100 entries. We managed to choose 13 songs that will form the album.”
