Mkhuhlu man celebrates birthday with generous donations

Beckie 'BK' Mafuwane selflessly uplifted the lives of his fellow residents by donating sanitary towels, school shoes and a vegetable garden.

A proud local man, Beckie Mafuwane, also known as BK, donated to various institutions in July in celebration of his birthday.

The charity drive started at Matikwane Hospital, where he handed winter baby clothes to two new mothers on his birthday, July 26. He said one of the mothers could not afford clothes.

He then proceeded to spend the day at the Mkhuhlu Community Home-based Care Centre. He donated seedlings, which were used to establish a backyard vegetable garden.

On July 30, he donated a total of 26 pairs of school shoes to youngsters at the Church of the Nazarene and Chayaza High School.

Mafuwane said he saw on Facebook there were girls at the school who stayed away from school when they menstruate. “It is important for community members to give back to their respective communities to encourage upliftment and equality. I always do charity drives every year to celebrate my birthday. All the donations were significant, because they corresponded with my birthdate.”
