Buscor spreads some love in Calcutta on Mandela Day

Buscor's executive chairperson donated school uniforms to learners at Pensele Primary School to commemorate Mandela Day.

In honouring the spirit and legacy of Nelson Mandela, Buscor’s executive chairperson, Dr Norah Fakude-Nkuna, has made a call to all to continue spreading the love and humility that Madiba had lived for.

Fakude-Nkuna said Mandela stood for love, peace, respect and humility, and those left behind should do everything in their power to emulate him.

She was speaking on the sidelines of Buscor’s Mandela Day celebrations at Pensele Primary School in Calcutta, Mkhuhlu.

Fakude-Nkuna and Buscor donated full school uniforms to those in need within this area.

“We owe it to Madiba, who paved the way and taught us how to love and care for one another without looking at the colour of the person next to you. And today, as we celebrate this special day on the calendar of the country, we must always strive to be like Mandela, and learn to love without boundaries,” she said.

“If we can all spread some love the same way Madiba did, I am certain this country would be such a wonderful place to live in. We are also here today to show and to spread that love. We have chosen to show our love by donating school uniforms, because we understand that many children, especially from these rural areas, are coming from disadvantaged family backgrounds and need our support and love.”

Even though Buscor regularly supports community developmental centres, orphanage homes and the destitute through the donation of houses, bursaries and many other social relief amenities, Fakude stressed that children are very close to her heart.

“Children are so special, and they deserve our attention and love. We are here to spread that love and ease their burdens. The other reason we came here is because, just like Madiba, who emphasised that without education, the future looks bleak, we also want to make education fashionable. We want these children to have a reason to wake up in the morning and go to school, because they would be all looking the same in their uniforms,” she said.
