The MEC for agriculture, rural development, land and environmental Affairs, Busi Shiba, visited the community of KaMphatseni near Hazyview bearing much-needed donations as a way to commemorate International Nelson Mandela Day.
It was a collective effort from the deputy minister for basic education, Dr Regina Mhaule, and the one for agriculture, land reform and rural development, Mcebisi Skhwatsha, at Siphumele Secondary School on Tuesday July 18.
They donated 200 fully irrigated climate change-friendly smart agriculture boxes.
The trio and other stakeholders participated in activities, including painting the walls in some classrooms, the kitchen and the palisades. They also planted seedlings in the smart agriculture boxes.
Shiba said the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs erected a fence around the school and installed a 1 000L water tank.
She urged the community members present to protect the infrastructure, as it benefits them and their children who attend at the school.
