Mpumalanga award winning make-up artist aims to inspire young people

This content creator, Charmaine Lisa Sidell, conducts make-up classes for young people who are interested in making an income through the use of social media.

A self-taught make-up artist is set on living her best life.

Charmaine Lisa Sidell (30) is doing everything she can to inspire young people who want to venture into the beauty industry.

She was recently recognised for her work by the Africa’s Finest Makeup Artist (Afmua) competition. She was nominated to represent South Africa – she made it into the top 10 out of 150 make-up artists in Africa. The Afmua contest focuses exclusively on celebrating the work of make-up artisans from all over the continent.

“I made it into the top 50 and then top 10. I was the only South African make-up artist in the contest. Although I was not among the five winners, I was super proud of my achievement and what I learnt throughout the contest. I got to meet some amazing industry friends from across Africa and this gave me the opportunity to attract more online followers,” she said.

She received the Mpumalanga Sunrise Women Awards Best Make-up Artist of the Year in 2022. The awards ceremony was hosted by the Admire Billy Malubana (ABM) Foundation.

“After winning that award, I hosted my first make-up masterclass last December. My tickets for the event sold out and it was a successful first class. Young people came from all over Mpumalanga to attend it.”
