Build it steps in to assist Mafowane family in Madras

The Hazyview Build it plans on building at least a two-room house for Dumisane Mafowane to begin with, and the company urges other businesses to assist the family.

After all attempts by Dumisane Mafowane to secure a house from the provincial human settlements department for over five years amounted to nothing, the Hazyview franchise of Build it stepped in to assist the family. Soon the Mafowanes will have a two-room house to replace the dilapidated shack in which they have been living. Mafowane’s wife and children were forced to leave the shack for fear of it collapsing on them, while Dumisane stayed on.

Now the family will be reunited after a story in Mpumalanga News, highlighted their plight and the local Build it donated building material as part of giving back to the community which supports it. The store manager, Fesinah Mohlala, said the material had already been delivered.
“We decided that we will donate some building material and we have already done so.

We are planning to build them at least a two-room house to start off with and we are calling on other businesses to also join hands in helping the family,” Mohlala said. Any donation will be appreciated.
Build it will continue to support Dumisane in his endeavour to have a safe home where he and his family can all live under one roof.
Mafuwane said he registered for a house and that he had been in and out of the human settlements offices over the past five years, with no luck. He echoed Mohlala’s plea for any donation towards their home “as the Department of Human Settlements failed him.”

Previously, the spokesperson for the provincial Department of Human Settlements, Freddy Ngobe, said Mafuwane needed to get his local councillor to assist him to make an application for consideration to be captured as a recipient on the system.
“The department will likely include him in an ongoing project or extend the scope.”
Furthermore, he also called on stakeholders such as business or able individuals to also intervene in similar cases. Mafowane said all attempts to get councillors to intervene were unsuccessful.
