KaBokweni St Mary’s Anglican Church celebrates Father’s Day

The Father's Day celebration was held to appreciate the role of fathers and to discuss the challenges they face.

The St Mary’s Anglican Church in Ngodini celebrated Father’s Day by hosting a prize-giving event to appreciate fathers on June 18. The event was hosted under the theme ‘Fathers matter’.

During the celebration, open discussions were conducted in which fathers were allowed to discuss the challenges they face as providers and as heads of the family.

According to the psychologist and pastor, Comfort Ndhlovu, the church decided to acknowledge the role of fathers and to celebrate them.
He said they want to recognise them and support them in the struggle that they are going through.

”This day must be a reminder to every man that they are important and understand the role they play in church and at home. We are happy that we got the opportunity today to share the challenges we face and solutions on how we must speak up about anything that is bothering us,” he said

”Several men think of ending their lives because of a lack of communication. If churches can learn to come together to have open discussion sessions for men alone, it will give us a platform to help and educate one another about the importance of communication with our wives and children.”

Ndlovu said fathers needed to learn to communicate with their children because children are longing for their father’s attention.

”By communicating and not using money to replace a father’s role, we will rescue several children who go out to the streets to find love from any man just because they are not experiencing it at home. These men they go to, who are not their fathers, end up leading them into the hands of evil, where they are being exposed to drugs and alcohol. This also increases gender-based violence,” he said.

After the service, the fathers received gifts to show how much they are appreciated by the church.
