Lutherans celebrate Youth Day in Matsulu

Reverend Nkosingphile Mcina said it is important for the church to celebrate Youth Day because they get to teach the youth on how others suffered in fighting for their liberation.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted a Parish Youth Conference at Matsulu Lutheran Church on Friday June 16.
The theme was derived from Genesis 16:13: ”You are the God who sees me”.

As part of commemorating the day, some young people wore their school uniforms. These young people were from various church branches, including Nkomazi, Matsulu and Barberton.

Reverend Nkosingphile Mcina, the organiser of the event, said the aim was to educate the youth about what transpired on June 16, 1976, and in the years before.
”It is important for the church to celebrate Youth Day because we reflect and teach the youth on how others suffered in fighting for their liberation. They need to enjoy their youth and be happy while they are still young.”

According to Mcina, the purpose of this event was to remind them that despite all the challenges they face as young people, there is a God who sees them through every social ill.

”God is aware of everything happening to them. We also read 1 Timothy 4:12-16, with which we encouraged the youth to try their best to live an exemplary lives, portraying good morals and Christian values, to encourage others to come to church,” he said.
