Mayoral imbizo takes over Elandshoek

Cllr Jesta Sidell and Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko's engagement with the community formed part of the service delivery strategies of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality and the City of Mbombela.

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality’s (EDM) executive mayor, Cllr Jesta Sidell, and the City of Mbombela’s (CoM) executive mayor, Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, hosted a mayoral imbizo in Elandshoek outside Mbombela to engage with the community.

The aim of the meeting is to fast-track service delivery in the area.

The mayors said their municipalities are aware of the key areas of need in service delivery such as lack of water and sanitation, housing, visible policing, roads and schools.

Most of these issues were also raised by community members from various villages and farms in Elandshoek.

“We work in collaboration to tackle these issues. There are engagements already with governmental departments and the private sector to uplift the lives of those in rural areas and farm dwellers. We also need to work with the community members so that there’s effective delivery of services,” Sidell said.
Makushe-Mazibuko said there is a budget fixed to tackle the water issue in Mbombela including Elandshoek’s villages. “However, Mbombela is faced with a great water crisis because there is no source of water such as a dam. With the assistance of the Department of Water and Sanitation, we hope to fix this issue in due time,” she said.
