Standerton father receives two life terms in prison for rape

A 44-year-old man raped his son on two different occasions. He was caught in the act by the child’s mother during the second incident.

A father (44) has been sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of rape. He raped his six-year-old son in two different instances at their home in Sakhile Village in Standerton in 2020.

The sentencing recently took place in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court.

The Mpumalanga’s NPA spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the first incident took place when the child’s mother was outside doing laundry.

“The father took the victim to the bedroom and sexually violated him. The child informed his mother that he had bled when he went to the toilet, but she thought he had gotten injured while playing.

“In the second incident, the father and the mother were drinking when he took the child to a bedroom and raped him. The mother walked in and saw the ordeal. She reported the matter to the police.”

Nyuswa said the man denied the allegations levelled against him in court. The state led the evidence provided by the child who gave his testimony using intermediary services.

“Evidence of a first report was supported by a medical report, which proved that the victim sustained serious injuries from the incidents,” Nyuswa said.

The court also ordered the father to be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders and was declared unfit to work with children and to possess a firearm.
