KaNyamazane filmmaker releases his first short movie

Sthembile Nkuna wants to inspire youngsters to pursue acting and be proud of their home language Siswati.

Sthembile Nkuna is ready to make a name for himself in the film and production industry.
The talented writer and filmmaker recently released his first movie on YouTube, called Budlelwano.

Nkuna said the short film is inspired by true-life events that happen daily in his community, KaNyamazane.
“The movie is about two close friends who shared relationship advice, but end up betraying each other,” he said.

Based on his observation of friendships, people tend to depend on the wrong people not knowing their motives with the information they share with them.

“In this movie, I had the opportunity to work with local actors and actresses who shared the same vision as mine, which is to take pride in using our home languages when acting,” he said

Nkuna obtained a bachelor of science degree in mathematics at North West University, but changed his career path when he could not find employment. He decided to start a film company, Matuassa Productions, to create job opportunities for people around his community.

He found his interest in acting and film productions when he performed in a drama play, Likusasa Lami, when he was at university.
Through Matuassa Productions, the 30-year-old wants to inspire upcoming Siswati actors and actresses.

“The film industry lacks people who are proud of producing work in their home language. I also noticed there is a gap in the videography, photography and filming fraternities in the province and I would like to encourage young people to venture into such spaces. We also need to create resources for creatives in Mpumalanga to develop their skills on their doorstep, instead of moving to Gauteng to pursue a film career.”

“My biggest dream is to see my films showcased on big channels like DStv’s Mzansi Bioskop,” he said.
