KaBokweni school is donated much-needed mobile library

The principal, Sannie Vilakazi, said the library will have a great impact on the school. They undertook to maintain it for all the learners, present and future.

The learners of AA Khumalo Primary School from Backdoor, Pienaar, were happy to receive a much-needed mobile library from TotalEnergies on April 26.

This public school in the rural areas of the Ehlanzeni District has never had a library before, and for all of them, this was a historical moment. The principal, Sannie Vilakazi, said the donation would make a huge impact on the school, as it will change the learning programme for the better.

“I am over the moon and humbled to be the chosen one. I will make sure we maintain and keep the library facility active for the learners. Our kids love reading, especially during the morning devotion. This will come in handy and it will encourage them to read more.”

Vilakazi said she is at loss for words, and she wants the sponsor and everyone involved to know that they are grateful.

TotalEnergies is a multi-energy company that produces and markets energies on a global scale. “In our company, we are encouraged to check in our communities if we can do something positive. When I visited this primary school, they did not have a library. I want to see people learning, especially those from a poor background. I grew up in a school without a library, and I know how hard it is. We want to see changes in the community,” said the depot manager, Sally Mathebula.

Mpho Ramasodi, the head of programmes of the Nal’ibali Trust, said, “We work in schools, early development centres and communities. Our work revolves around creating and stimulating an environment for children to fall in love with reading and acquiring languages at an early stage.” She said they provided reading material, supplements, flash cards and many more.

“We provided the structure and books to put in the library, together with Nal’ibali Trust, to make sure the facility will be used correctly for months and years to come. Some of the learners were trained on how to use some of the equipment and books inside the facility,” said Janine McEvoy of Breadline Africa.
