SUPERSPAR to launch multipurpose sports court in Malalane

Mpumalanga’s provincial netball team, the Mpumalanga Sunbirds, will also be part of the grand launch on April 22.

Malelane SUPERSPAR will launch a multipurpose sports court in town on April 22.
The idea behind the four-court sports facility was fuelled by SPAR’s support of netball over the years, and South Africa hosting this year’s World Cup was seen as an opportunity for the retailer to give back to the fraternity.

“When we checked what we could do, we found that in order for us to do a proper set-up, we needed four courts. We did all the groundwork and decided to use the piece of land next to the taxi rank. The courts are big enough to take four netball games and two soccer games at the same time,” said Lex Hollmann, one of the owners at Malelane SUPERSPAR.

Twenty-five schools will participate in soccer and netball on the day of the grand opening.

“We also have the Mpumalanga Sunbirds having their first official training on the courts for the day. The whole project is done in conjunction with Mpumalanga Netball, which relates up to South African Netball. We have given Mpumalanga Netball access to our facilities, as they normally don’t have the facilities they should have, and we are glad they will get to use ours,” said Hollmann.
