Countdown to Metro FM Music Awards begins as nominees are announced

The Mpumalanga-born musician, K.O, received seven nominations in the run-up to the awards ceremony in May.

Following the much-anticipated nominees announcement of the Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs), many nationally acclaimed musicians scooped up multiple nominations, including Ntokozo Mdluli, known as K.O.

This Mpumalanga-born hitmaker is nominated in seven categories, including song of the year, artist of the year and best music video of the year for his latest single, “Sete”.

During the recent nomination announcement in Johannesburg, Metro FM’s business manager, Kina Nhlengethwa, said the national broadcaster, SABC, had received over 900 entries.

“We are excited to have reached the second stage of the road to the MMAs. The announcement of MMA nominees always sets the music industry abuzz, and this year was no different. We congratulate all the nominees, as this signifies that their hard work and impact on the industry does not go unnoticed,” Nhlengethwa said.

She added the station had gone the extra mile to ensure there were measures in place to properly screen all the entries for compliance with the relevant rules.

“As the awards are based on the public voting for their favourite artists in the respective categories, we urge the nominees to go out hard and campaign to their fans.”
