Boschfontein fashion designer aims to shake things up

Having worked with big brands in Nkomazi, he now has set his sights for the bigger piece of the pie.

In a world where fashion has taken centre stage, John Sithole has opted to take a stand and go for the unfamiliar of the industry.
His passion for denim has grown into a profession he takes pride in, and his brand, EarthQuake, has become a name to be reckoned with.

The young man, who hails from Aniva in Boschfontein, has had his work associated with the Nkomazi Riders Club and the 013 Summer Blaze which took Mpumalanga by storm last year.

“Denim and canvas are the only material I truly love, because they can form any shape. When treated well, they love you back. Interestingly, the more washed out they are the nicer they become. I would describe myself as a streetwear fashion designer because I am free-spirited and I enjoy letting my imagination run loose whenever I work,” said Sithole.

It is no surprise that he is excelling in the textile industry as he hails from a family who has been involved in it professionally for years.-
“I am the third generation in my family. It started with my grandfather, then my uncle and now me. I don’t know anything else apart from making clothes. Sashion runs in my blood. One of my greatest moments of my career was designing the jackets for the 013 Summer Blaze last year. It was a frenzy,” he said.

Like any other designer, Sithole’s dream is to own a big factory where he will produce EarthQuake and reach out to as many fashion fanatics as possible.-
“I have a big dream, it’s probably even bigger than me.”-
