MEC visits Lwaleng Primary School outside White River

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, visited this school that is doing so well academically despite, some challenges within.

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, recently paid a courtesy visit to Lwaleng Primary School in the White River Circuit in the City of Mbombela.

This school was established in 1930 in a privately owned farm outside White River and has an enrolment of 1 662 learners from grades R to seven with 39 teaching staff members. The school is doing well academically and in sports and has won three consecutive Sunbake national competitions, resulting in it getting three additional classrooms.

Learners who attend the school commute from as far as Masoyi, Shabalala, KaBokweni, KaNyamazane, Pienaar, Makoko, Malekutu, Msholozi, Embonisweni, Edwaleni and White River.

“We must urgently resolve the land matter needed for building the permanent school as stakeholders, more so with the school governing body. This will ensure that we can be in a position to build a sustainable structure so that our children could be taught in a conductive environment.”

He said they want learners to learn comprehensively and for them to excel in sports as well.
“The challenges like a shortage of food, classrooms, and sanitation need our urgent attention. My concern is that even though the school was established in 1930, almost everything looks temporal until now,” he said.
