Trazy is Pienaar’s aspiring hit maker

Sandile Shabangu said he wants to heal people and provide for his family with his unique brand of amapiano.

Amapiano music has become a genre into which most musicians are venturing. Sandile Mashaba aims to contribute creative ideas to this genre. He hopes to become an amazing musician inspired by the likes of the amapiano vocalist and dancer, Toss.

Mashaba has started building his brand, Trazy, and released a song titled “Wenzokwakho” in January.

“This is my debut single in which I featured other Pienaar musicians. ‘Wenzokwakho’ is a song about unreciprocated love. I have witnessed a lot of people in relationships with people who are not in love with them, which is heartbreaking. The message in this song is to encourage healthy love while jamming to a fun sound,” Mashaba said.

He said it only took him three days to cook up the song with Menzi Wabo, TDK and Masylsoul. “I am currently signed by Groova Records, and that has made the start of my music career quite comfortable,” he said.

The vocalist and songwriter said he began his professional music career when he was 17.

“I chose to do amapiano, because it is trendy and has a lot of listeners. It is also a unique South African sound, so why not bring in my own fresh ideas to contribute to the genre? I wrote a lot of Afropop songs before I became a recording artist. I have been singing from a young age and I hope to heal people through my music and provide for my family. Music has given me a sense of belonging to something and I believe it is my calling,” he said.

Mashaba has an EP titled The Three of Us. “The EP has five songs. I can confidently say locals love the project. More music can be expected from me. I believe I will gain recognition in other provinces and the world in the near future,” he said.

He said he hopes to have his own recording label soon to uplift young musicians like him. “The aim is to work hard to become a brand that will invest in elevating aspiring musicians. My goal is to work with my favourite musician, Toss,” Mashaba said.

His music is available on digital streaming platforms such as Audiomack, Spotify and YouTube.
