Over 31 000 fans witness a goalless thriller at Mbombela Stadium

Despite the draw,TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs produced exciting football.

Kaizer Chiefs failed to use their numerical superiority over the 10-man TS Galaxy side as they could not to put the Mpumalanga boys to the sword at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
The stadium was ablaze with a crowd of 31 210 fans. This has been the most-attended soccer match in the province post-Covid-19.
The City of Mbombela had an influx of soccer-loving tourists who came to the venue in support of their teams. Because of the long queues outside the 2010 Soccer World Cup venue, the scheduled 15:30 kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes.

These two teams played to a goalless stalemate in an encounter of high magnitude and great atmosphere.
It was a do-or-die encounter in which both Amakhosi and The Rockets were in dire need of points.

Both sides failed to maintain their winning momentum as they had both come from convincing wins last week.
Chiefs are now undefeated in their last two matches, but they failed to make it two wins in a row against Galaxy, having brushed aside Royal AM 2-0 last weekend. Meanwhile, TS Galaxy discovered their scoring boots in 4-0 thrashing of Golden Arrows, adding their fourth win of the season. The Rockets are now on position 10 with 23 points and only five away from the relegation zone.

Chiefs are still seated on position five with 28 points after 19 games. They failed to grab a chance to leapfrog fourth-placed Orlando Pirates, leaving the two heavyweights level on points. Amakhosi also missed an opportunity to boost their chances of finishing the season as runners-up and earning a shot at the continental football.
It was a match of equal strength for both teams, which had not been playing enterprising football in the first half of the season.

Kaizer Chiefs had a slight advantage in ball possession from the opening whistle and had more scoring opportunities as they unleashed wave after wave of attacks, making it difficult for Galaxy’s shot-stopper, Vasilije Kolak, to make saves. However, in the end it did not matter, because they went back to the locker rooms empty-handed, just like TS Galaxy.

Chiefs will next be in action in a Nedbank Round of 32 clash away against Maritzburg United on Friday, while The Rockets will host Amavarara on Sunday for their Nedbank round of 32 match.
