Heavy rain continues to cause havoc in rural Mpumalanga

Even more rain is expected in the Lowveld, and the flood damages are mounting.

As the current heavy rain continues to cause havoc in Mpumalanga, many community members are raising their concerns on the damage already caused.

Reports came in that about four people had been swept away in recent days in Nkomazi.

Many people have turned to social media to share their concerns, and others are asking for help.

On Friday February 10, community members in Nkomazi villages, KaNyamazane, Msholozi, Matsafeni, and many others in the Lowveld, were still facing challenges and were severely affected by the floods.

Some Msholozi roads were swept away.

Some learners and workers in Malalane are not able to make it to school and work. Msholozi and Matsafeni residents are facing similar challenges, as several roads were swept away, leaving many unable to leave or reach their homes.

In KaNyamazane, motorists were warned to use the roads with caution, due to the floods.

Sizwe Dlamini from KaNyamazane said he decided to post on social media to warn others after he saw a driver almost lose control of her vehicle.

“Our roads are flooding and it is no longer safe for us. I saw a female driver who almost lost control of her vehicle due to the amount of water we have on our roads. After I posted, the municipality sent out people to assist, however, since the rain keeps pouring, the water is still there.”
