Mayor officially opens City of Mbombela’s part of Hoxane Water Treatment Works

The City of Mbombela's mayor, Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, said the water plant should benefit community members in several areas.

The City of Mbombela (CoM) officially opened part of the Hoxane Water Treatment Works on Wednesday, January 25.

According to the municipality, this will benefit over 50 000 households. Several community members and various stakeholders came out to witness this event.

The mayor, Cllr Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, said, “We have finally started operating the Hoxane plant. Citizens of the City of Mbombela’s northern region, such as Hazyview and parts of Nsikazi, finally breathed a sigh of relief after either getting raw water or no water at all for years.”

Over R120m was spent on this project, which took the municipality almost eight years to complete. At least 300 people were employed since the start.
