Kameelrivier author publishes poetry book

Koketso Mogale published her first book, My Way Forward.

Koketso Mogale (18) is a poetry and writing enthusiast. She released her first-ever work of art as a poetry book comprising 53 poems.

She released My Way Forward in 2021 and has received overwhelming feedback.

“I have received great recognition for this book and it sold out quicker than I had expected. I never thought I would be able sell 305 copies not long I was published,” Koketso said.

“The poems are mostly inspired by situations I had witnessed happen around me and in my community. The book is to give hope to young and old in whatever situation they find themselves in,” she said.

The author from Kameelrivier, close to Siyabuswa, said the book also tackles the stereotype that depression only affects rich people.

“Depression affects people of all backgrounds, rich or poor, and any race,” she said.

It took her about five months to compile My Way Forward. She has been writing since Grade Five, and these poems are all in the book.

She is currently working on her second book, which she plans to release in July.

“I do not have a name yet for the upcoming book, but it is a short story about the challenges face by an underprivileged girl,” Koketso said excitedly.

She said she cannot wait to see herself as an accomplished author in Mpumalanga like her inspiration, Thembi Ntahane KaMahlangu.
