Meridian Karino displays excellent matric pass rate

A school's Class of 2022 obtained a 98.8% pass rate.

The Class of 2022 of Meridian Karino Independent School showed how it is done with an exceptional 98.8% pass rate.

From the first matric group in 2016 to the one in 2022, the school’s pass rate has been outstanding. The executive head, Johannes Mahlatsi, said Meridian

Karino prides itself on the pass rate and appreciates the teachers’ efforts in working to improve the results each year.

“We are a school that focuses on improving the performance of learners from Grade 10 to produce quality results. That way, we have a direction on what interventions we need to adopt for each learner before Grade 12,” Mahlatsi said.

He said employing multi-skilled teachers is another method of producing quality results.

It is now in the hands of the Class of 2023 to take the baton of the learners who achieved distinctions in 2022, such as Ezraite Jamile in five subjects, Lisa Hlongwane in four and Thabang Nkosi with three. The top achiever, Ezraite, obtained 85% in mathematics, 82% in physical science, 88% in Afrikaans as a first additional language, 81% in business studies and 90% in life orientation.

She said she is excited for achieving these results, which means nothing stands in her way of pursuing a career in mechanical engineering.

“I did my best through the difficult times we came across, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and load-shedding. Some managed to recover sooner, but I only managed to recover in Grade 12,” Ezraite said.

“Personally, Grade 11 was the most difficult, because we had to study online at home and also had to adjust back into classrooms in the same year. But I am happy that my zeal for education remained the greatest goal.”

She advised the Class of 2023 at Meridian Karino to work together as a group.

“My class chased individual success, but if we had helped one another with the problems, we could have all passed with even more distinctions. If your mate struggles with something, be sure to lend a helping hand and always listen to the teachers,” Ezraite said.

Mahlatsi congratulated the top achievers and the Class of 2022. “These learners passed very well despite the challenges they had faced in the last few years of their academics. We are positive that the Class of 2023 will yield a 100% pass rate with at least above 70% pass average,” he said.
