Parolee back in the dock in White River

An unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen goods were recovered at the parolee's friend's house.

A 43-year-old parolee who was handed an 18-year prison term for carjacking and business robberies landed back to jail on Wednesday January 18.

According to a provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala the man was nabbed after he was alleged to be involved in multiple criminal activities including ATM bombings, carjacking and business robberies.

Mohala said the suspect was arrested at his female friend’s residence.

“Police conducted a search at the residence and a number of suspected stolen properties including six speakers, a plasma television, an amplifier and two mixers were recovered. A firearm with one magazine and four live rounds of ammunition was also recovered,” he said.

Mohlala added that the police cannot rule out possibility that the parolee might be involved in other criminal activities committed previously.

He is expected to appear at the White River Magistrate’s Court soon.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Daphney Manamela, has welcomed the arrest and hopes the man’s parole will be revoked.
