Metro FM Music Awards 2023 comes to Mbombela

The return of the awards, after it short-lived break, is designed to stimulate interest by unearthing talent and promoting development.

The biggest broadcaster, SABC and the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation (DCSR) have announced the return of the Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs) 2023 to be hosted in Mbombela on April 29.

The announcement was made at the City of Mbombela on Wednesday night, January 18.

The SABC radio group executive, Nada Wotshela, said it is quite exciting to have the awards hosted in Mbombela and will stimulate interest by unearthing talent and promoting development.

“This event has grown to be embraced by the industry and surely has made an indelible mark, hence the demand remained high even at the time of its short break. MMAs are successful because of the key strategic partnerships with various stakeholders and this is not something we take for granted,” Wotshela said.

The DCSR head of department, Godfrey Ntombela, said that the MMAs will surely uplift the tourism industry in the province.

“We strongly believe this event will reignite tourism and the fact that we are the host province again is an indication that Mpumalanga is the perfect destination to tourism and cultural activities,” Ntombela said.

Entries for nominees are open and will close on February 28. The awards will comprise of 20 categories and a stringent of albums, singles and recordings released between February 28 last year and February 28 this year.
