The animals that are left wandering close to and on the R538 just outside White River, is a safety concern for the motorists.
Livestock, especially herds of cattle, have been seen wandering on the road without a herder.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said these cattle remain a challenge to road users.
“This endangers the lives of the motorists, especially at night, when visibility is poor. It is costly and some people have lost their lives after crashing into cows on the road,” Mmusi said.

He said the livestock owners should take full responsibility and know the whereabouts of their animals at all times.

“The government does not impound wandering livestock. We are appealing to owners to be more responsible by, among others, ensuring they properly fence their kraal and brand their livestock appropriately,” Mmusi said.
The motorists are also urged to slow down and drive cautiously on the road to prevent accidents.
