The KwaMhlanga SAPS is on a manhunt for Bheki Moses Phakathi (29) who escaped from lawful custody at the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday December 21.
According to a Mpumalanga provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Phakathi was being transported for a court appearance.

A case of escape from lawful custody has been opened against the suspect. Another charge of aiding a suspect to escape is being investigated too,” Mohlala said.
He said internal investigations surrounding the circumstances of this escape had also been instituted against certain police members.
“The suspect was initially arrested for five counts of rape, as well as a charge of residential burglary,” Mohlala said.
