Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency launches festive safety campaign

Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency with other stakeholders shared safety tips and travel guides while they inspected vehicles and pedestrians on the N4.

The start of the festive season has already seen accidents on Mpumalanga’s roads. To ensure motorists drive roadworthy vehicles and obey to the rules of the road, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has launched a tourism safety campaign.

MTPA’s acting CEO, Mduduzi Vilakazi, headed the campaign held on the N4 at the Alkmaar turn-off on Friday December 2.

Together with officers of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison and the SAPS, they shared safety tips and travel guide material with motorists and pedestrians.

Vilakazi said it is mandatory to encourage motorists coming in and out of the province to travel safely.

“We need to prepare them to be careful on the roads so they reach their destination. This remains our main priority so that we can reduce the mortality and crime rates on our roads. We are also working towards having crime-free tourism routes so that the safety of tourists is ensured,” Vilakazi said.

The joint workmanship with the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison and SAPS will yield good results at the end of the festive season.

“We hope that international and local tourists will come in the province to enjoy our beautiful landscapes and routes, because Mpumalanga remains a safe destination to visit this festive season,” Vilakazi said.

The campaign will continue to be implemented on December 9 and 15 at various intersections on the N4, Hazyview and Numbi.

The agency has encouraged people to make use of the aftercare procedure for tourists in distress, which outlines the various steps how to seek help. The procedure is available on the agency’s website and social media pages.
