Former Mpumalanga MECs elected as chairperson and deputy

Mohita Latchminarain is the former MEC of public works, roads and transport and was replaced by Mandla Ndlovu. Vusi Mkhatshwa was replaced by Nompumelelo Hlophe, who is now the MEC for finance, economic development and tourism.

Former cabinet members Vusi Mkhatshwa and Mohita Latchminarain were elected as the chairperson and deputy chairperson of parliamentary portfolio committees.

The election took place on November 1 at the Provincial Legislature during a formal sitting, which was presided over by House Speaker Makhosazane Masilela.

“I want to ensure and guarantee you, honourable speaker and members of the legislature, that I will continue to work within the collective of the legislature to make sure that its mandate is fulfilled,” said Mkhatshwa shortly after he was elected.

He is not new to the work of the legislature, as he had served as its deputy speaker before he was deployed to serve as a member of the executive council responsible for the Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.

In their congratulatory remarks, all members of the provincial legislature representing different political parties supported both Mkhatshwa and Latchminarain’s election.
