Undocumented foreign national in KwaMhlanga court for gruesome murders

The accused, who claimed to be from Zimbabwe, is facing two murder charges.

An undocumented foreign man (28) allegedly took an axe to four people, one being his uncle. This resulted in two of them succumbing to their injuries. He is facing two counts of murder and two counts of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man, who claimed to be from Zimbabwe, appeared in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday November 8. The matter was postponed to November 10 for the availability of an interpreter. The suspect was remanded in custody.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the accused visited his uncle on Monday October 31 in Mountainview, KwaMhlanga and an argument is said to have ensued.

“It is further alleged that the suspect started hacking his 60-year-old uncle with an axe. It is also came to the attention of the police that after the gruesome murder, the man proceeded to a different section in Mountainview where he allegedly attacked a local woman with an axe and she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries later in hospital.

He further attacked another female who was carrying a baby on her back. During that attack, the child, too, sustained some injuries. The matter was reported to the police and an investigation ensued,” Mohlala said.

The accused was arrested on Sunday November 6.

On Monday November 7, the accused made a brief appearance in the Tweefontein Magistrate’s Court for the alleged contravention of the Immigration Act and the matter was postponed to November 15.
