The CWP and the NYDA adopt preschool in Barberton.

The Verulam Early Childhood Development Centre will receive state-of-the-art classrooms to accommodate more children.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), facilitated through the Community Work Programme (CWP), has adopted Verulam Early Childhood Development Centre in Sincobile, Barberton.

During a visit to the centre on Thursday October 27, the CWP acting senior manager, Jabulile Mkhwanazi, said the programme, the NYDA and other stakeholders have committed to rebuilding the centre so it can accommodate more children in three state-of-the-art classrooms before the end of April next year.

“We are excited that this project is for the community and those who are willing to help. Verulam currently has more than 70 children and the space has become too small,” Mkhwanazi said.

The CWP and the NYDA are continuing to grow and develop communities in Mpumalanga, such as social working programmes and facilitating vegetable gardens like the one at the centre.

“The programme has provided full-time and part-time employment to most young people in the town and such centres uplift the education standards of small children,” Mkhwanazi said.

The principal of Verulam, Elizabeth Simelane, said through the commitment of various stakeholders the children now have a safe and warm place to stay during the day.

“We are able to get nutritious food from the garden to prepare at least three meals a day for the children. The new classrooms will afford them a better learning experience. I am over the moon and I believe our community will appreciate this project,” Simelane said.

Not missing a chance to meet some of the people who are always making means to uplift some parts of the town, was NYDA’s executive chairperson, Asanda Luwaca, accompanied by a board member, Thulisa Ndlela.

Luwaca said she appreciated the CWP and NYDA in Mpumalanga for doing great work in uplifting the communities in the province.

“As the NYDA, we love to see communities uplifted, especially the youth and young children. We appreciate the work and the support we receive from the stakeholders in Mbombela in rebuilding such institutions,” Luwaca said.

Some of NYDA’s youth grant beneficiaries showcased their businesses during the visit.
