The MEC for public works, roads and transport, Mandla Ndlovu, has made a call to citizens to support public transport such as buses and taxis.

He said it plays a vital role in people’s lives.

The MEC was speaking on the sidelines of the Buscor’s annual Transport Month activities, which among others include an early morning bus ride experience and a tour to the company’s (Buscor) multimillion, state-of-the-art infrastructure.
“My understanding is that every day is a public transport day. But since it was declared that it should be observed during October, we will abide by that and use this month to appeal to our people and communities to always rally behind public transport. But most importantly, we will use this month to urge and remind our taxi and bus operators to take care of their minibuses and buses that ferry thousands of people to various destinations. These vehicles must always be serviced from engine to tyres, so that the clients are always happy to utilise them,” said Ndlovu.
He also called on public transport operators to respect the rules of the road.

“We are fast approaching the festive season and I would like to make a call to all motorists, especially our public transport operators to abide by the rules of the road so that we are all safe. That culture of self-discipline when driving must actually start now,” said Ndlovu before applauding Buscor for running a smooth and professional public transport system.
