New chief in Emanzana coronated

Inkosi Misisizwe Mnisi has been bestowed as the new chief of the Mantjolo Traditional Council.

The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) and the Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional Leaders (MPHTL) have welcomed the newly enthroned chief of the Mantjolo Traditional Council. Inkosi Misisizwe Mnisi is now succeeding his father, Inkosi Bheki Mnisi.

The coronation was on September 17 and a number of people dear to the Mantjolo Royal Family in Emanzana showed their support to the new inkosi, such as the MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs, Mandla Ndlovu.

The community of Ekhonjaneni was elated to finally have a chief to lead them.

The president of Contralesa and chairperson of the MPHTL, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, said both traditional institutions are thrilled to have such an astounding individual as one of Mpumalanga’s traditional leaders.

“It is advantageous that he is young, because he is teachable and seems ready for the challenge, and there are many responsibilities that come with chieftaincy. The most exciting news about this, is that Inkosi Misisizwe is the rightful successor to the Mantjolo throne, as we always strive to have the rightful successors leading,” said Mokoena.

The Mantjolo Traditional Council has been without a chief since the passing of Inkosi Bheki in 2020 after a long illness. He was the first chairperson of the MPHTL when it was established in 1995.

Mokoena said the young inkosi is well equipped to be one of the respectable leaders in the province with the teaching he had received from his father and guidance from leaders like Mokoena himself.

“Inkosi Misisizwe is now the spokesperson for his people. The people of Mantjolo have had no one to speak on their behalf and have been seeking help for some time now. We are excited that even over the alleged family disputes that took place, he came victorious to claim the throne that is rightfully his,” he said.

Mokoena said the disputes were among the members of the royal family who believed the Mnisi clan was not the rightful keeper of the Mantjolo throne.

Mokoena said the young inkosi has already been deployed to certain tasks soon after the coronation and has been doing well speaking on behalf of his community.

“As much as he is young, he has become an elder. What we can share with him as seasoned leaders is to always respect his position in the community and to always put his people first,” said Mokoena.
